Mellissa goes to HK Karaoke.

"The following individuals please report to gate 6: ....Kerry Gallagher... " There clearly is another Kerry Gallagher traveling to HK on Cathay Pacific. Negative. Well I guess we are off to a good start...
Despite such obstacles and airport beers, we landed safely at 7pm Friday night HK time. After a good dinner at the American Club (they did not want to culture shock us yet) we are out for a Friday night in Lan Kwai Fong with John and Momo. Side note: we are not wearing our dresses or heels, we are straight off the plane, greasy and un-showered for close to over 24 hours. We look GREAT.

The nightlife in this area is insane-the hottest spot to go and grab a beer is Club 7, aka 7-11 convenient store. The bars are so crowded that people just overflow into the street, with different music and diverse groups of people. We call it an early night around 1am to get up early for sight seeing.
Jet lag gets the best of us and we are up at 6am greeted by Kerry's little cousin Johnny and soon we are off for the day!

Aunt Janet, Uncle Pat, John, Momo and the kids take us to Clear Water Bay, the site of HKUST (Hong Kong University of Science and Technology) John and Momo's alma mater. The campus is HUGE, located right on the water with amazing views of the harbor. We then head to Sai Kung, a fishing market and village again right on the water. John uses his bargaining abilities to get us a boat ride to one of the islands in the harbor and we check out the fishermans' vast selections of...eh...sea creatures. We finish off day 1 of site seeing with a treat from Momo of "Sweet Soup" dessert (fruit, jello, tapioca, tofu???). We arrive home to rest up for our first night out in HK...

This is where Melissa comes out to play...We head to a karaoke bar, which in HK is a bunch of rooms (resembling a tanning salon) and we are given our own room with a waitress to perform. 12 beers and 2 double vodkas later we are ready to go. Performances include: Michael Jackson Thriller, Wang Lee-Hom (Apparently John's idol), Garth Brooks I Got Friends in Low Places, Chinese opera, Liang Jiang Ru (Momo's go-to) and Spice Girls Wannabe. My karaoke cherry has been popped and now Kerry and I will be duet-ing back in the states.

We head to a bunch of other bars and clubs  in Wan Chi, finally deciding on one with a live band and a dance floor- Kerry and I are self-proclaimed bar girls, we don't do clubs and we very rarely would do anything remotely similar to what we did this night- We are oblivious to the other "activities" going on right next to us on the dance floor (let's just say the girls were "working hard for their money") ...and then next thing you know its 5am...
